A Novel in the works

Ideas, I have them.

And I have to restart somewhere, my friends. Going slightly mad takes its toll on a body. Coming out of it is going to be a longer process than I expected.

So here is the beginning, and I will see where this idea takes me: I will turn Kathy’s World into a novel. It will be romance novel filled with sex, because that’s just how I roll, but it will be a novel nonetheless – longer than anything I’ve ever written for this hidden life I like to live.

And I am going to write it on my phone. On the bus. On my daily commute.

Why? Because I can. Because I take the moments when I can write anywhere they are available to me. Even this post is being written in a bathroom, before I go back to my day job. I will write this whole thing on a device no bigger than my hand.

If I can write a book on this little thing, I can write anywhere and on anything. And that means I am still a writer, in my heart. That’s the test, my friends. Can I be a writer with only the most basic tools?

We shall have to see.

Expanding stories

I have an idea. Because it always starts with an idea, doesn’t it? The idea was Kathy’s World, and now I want to expand it into something bigger.

So I joined this Good reads group, and they were nice enough to read it (because I asked politely) and they liked it. This makes me a happy Shay! One thing they said was that it felt like a longer book, or it should be one at least.

So. The idea got a little bigger. I can make it a novel, though I’m not sure how long it should be.

So much to write, so little time!

Someone found me

…through a search for ‘kathy’s world porn’. This makes me happy!

Whoever you are, searcher-of-porn, I salute you. And I hope you read and liked Kathy’s World.

I’m planning to make everything free again soon. Let there be porn a-plenty for all those on Santa’s list, especially if you’ve been naughty!

Ooooohhhhh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is soooooo delightful….

So I have numbers…

I love numbers. Numbers tell me things.

In this case, they tell me that eighty-two people have downloaded a copy of Kathy’s World. This is somewhat confusing, because I’m pretty sure that not even eighty people have ever seen this blog, and it’s not like I’m talking about it elsewhere. So I remain baffled. I expected a couple of downloads – ten or twenty at the most, based on the stats I get from WordPress.

On one hand, I’m pretty pleased that eighty-two people thought enough of the cover, the blurb, or my inane rambling to go grab a copy. This means that there are eighty-two copies of Kathy’s World out there on various Kindles, hopefully amusing people or giving them some sexytimes boosting fun. I like this idea, I really do.

On the other hand, part of my neurotic writer persona is screaming WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE AND WHAT DO YOU WANT WITH ME?! and twitching in the corner, whimpering under the weight of attention. It’s frightening, you see, even though the more sensible part of me keeps pointing at the aforementioned happy feeling, patting the writer persona soothingly on the shoulder and saying ‘there, there, it’s alright.’

Yes, the different aspects of my personality talk to each other. That’s not important right now.

See, I think writers can have – nay, must have – this weird split in their minds between the introvert and the extrovert. We have to have some kind of confidence in our work, while simultaneously believing that it’s utter garbage and in dire need of improvement. The extrovert forces us to publish. The introvert forces us to write better.

In my case, I think the extrovert is the one who pushed me into writing about sex in the first place, and the introvert is the one who keeps sending me to Google looking for information such as “best places to have sex on campus”. (My search history is HILARIOUS.)

Now, excuse me while I go sacrifice a small furry animal to the gods of Amazon in the hope that I’ll get some reviews out of this.

Kathy’s World

I have published erotica for all the world to see. Behold!

Here’s the blurb as well, just for fun.

KATHY’S WORLD is a weird little short story about sex, betrayal and a little bit of heavy metal.

Kathy’s world was flipped upside down when she caught her boyfriend Mark cheating on her. Things go from bad to worse when she finds out that Mark is lying about her to their friends.

Some friendly comfort comes from a bizarre source when the other woman, Gina, shows up at her door, looking for her lost phone. She brings Kathy to Gun Metal, the club where she works, to chill out while she deals with what Mark has done. She also introduces her to Eddie, a drummer and occasional bouncer who takes a liking to Kathy – and Kathy finds herself warming up to him a lot faster than usual.

She still has to deal with Mark. But if the world’s gone mad and it doesn’t look like it’s going fix itself any time soon, then she might as well enjoy the insanity.

I feel like shouting ‘IT’S ALIVE!’ and cackling like a madman.
